Solidarity Forever by akabeko
Solidarity Forever
Aw shucks, I probably shouldn't have tackeld such an ambitious fanart as I'm barely just recovering from my persistent art block, but I've been wanting to draw something in honour of the wonderful British comedy "Pride" ever since I've seen it for the first time back in October last year (and four more times since then, every time dragging different unsuspecting friends with me to the cinema~)

The film is based on a true story, and nearly all characters on real people, and tells the story of how in 1984, a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists decided to collect money and support a mining community in South Wales which was at the time on strike after PM Margaret Thatchers government decided to close down a majority of mining pits, leaving tens of thousands of miners jobless. The two very different groups clash at first, but over time... oh, just look at the trailer, here:…

Doesn't it make you watch it, like, immediately? But in Austria, the DVD won't be out till march, MARCH!!! :cries:

Anyway, as it's a fun and positive film, a coloured fanart would have fit much better, however that attempt turned out rather disastrous (, so I stuck to what I know, which is crosshatch - you can never go too wrong with that :D

PS: Oooh, this is my 100th deviation!!
GO - Listening to the radio by akabeko
GO - Listening to the radio
The news that BBC4 will be airing an audio play version of my beloved "Good Omens" this December - featuring, among others, Colin Morgan as Newt and Louise Brealey as... we don't know yet, Anathema maybe? That would brilliant! :heart: - got me so excited that I managed to draw my first fanart in months, starring the GO cast listening to the broadcast.

Of course, I realised later that since the audio play will be airing in December, they should all be wearing winter clothes and there should be snow and whatnot, but I'm not ready to say goodbye to summer this year yet, so there. :>

EDIT: To those who know my earlier Good Omens fanart, yes, I've changed my character designs of Adam, Pepper and Brian a bit. For Pepper and Brian there was spontaneous, but Adam actually is described in the book as looking like a little cherub, so I figured he must have curly blonde hair.
Hanamatsuri chibis - and Conchita by akabeko
Hanamatsuri chibis - and Conchita
I'm still suffering from my artist's block which prevents me from drawing proper fanart, but I haven't uploaded anything in a while so I thought I'd at least post a few chibis I've drawn again for the Viennese cosplay ball "Hana Matsuri" (the mascots wear different flower themed clothes in a different colour scheme each year) and a Conchita Wurst chibi I had drawn on the morning of her win - which I had been sure of even then - and posted on FB and my weblog in order to influence my German friends to vote for her in the evening :XD:

Chibis are about the only thing I can still draw... ;____;
Hobblock by akabeko
A little BBC Sherlock/The Hobbit crossover I was invited to draw as a guest illustration for Yunuyei's "The Desolation of Smauglock" doujinshi - keep your eyes peeled for it at conventions in the German-speaking countries this summer :D

I wanted to draw the main characters, too, but I couldn't think of any fun or original crossover gag - but that's fine, the supporting characters need more love, anway <3

Austria’s first Sherlock (Holmes) Convention - which I am part of the organisational team of - is proud to announce that the production designer of the BBC series “Sherlock”, Mr Arwel Wyn Jones, will attend and bring along tons of interesting pictures and stories from behind the scenes and answer all your “Setlock” related questions! :D I'm so thrilled~
